Beowulf, an epic hero, resides in Geatland with his noble family. His leader and uncle, Higlac, sent Beowulf on many missions to slay monsters that threatened their kingdom.
Meeting with the Mentor
While the Danes slept in Herot, the mead hall, Grendel snuck in and slaughtered 30 men. He continued to do this night after night for 12 years. Slowly, the word traveled around and eventually made it to the Geats and Beowulf
Crossing the First Threshold
Beowulf does not refuse the call because he never refuses the call to battle.
Tests, Allies and Enemies
Beowulf made his way to the Danes and met with King Hrothgar. Beowulf immediately displayed his loyalty toward King Hrothgar and accepted his vast wisdom and leadership.
Beowulf and his small army of Geats traveled from Geatland to Denmark to meet the Danes and King Hrothgar. Beowulf established the goal of slaying the great monster Grendel.
Beowulf and his small army of Geats pretend to sleep in Herot in hopes of luring Grendel. This plan works as Grendel breaks into Herot and kills one of the Geats. But Beowulf comes to the rescue and defeats Grendel with his bare hands. Wounded Grendel narrowly escaped back to his cave with one less limb.
