George looks over Lennie.
" Lennie imitated him, raising his head to see whether he were doing it right."
This explains that Lennie follows George with what ever he does.
One theme for chapter 1 is friendship. Friendship because in chapter 1 it shows how close Lennie and George are with each other. Lennie says, " I got you to look after and you got me to look after you." That they have each others backs.
Second theme for chapter 1 is loneliness . Loneliness because it is just them two no one else. In the book it says," They had walked in a single file down the path, and even in the open one stayed behind the other." They were alone together.
What I think will happen next is that they will meet the boss of the ranch. That Lennie will listen to George when he says he needs to stay quit.
