Storyboard Text

  • You will always have the last word, but no power to speak first.
  • The hero, Narcissus, whose beauty was so great, all the girls longed to be his--even Echo, the loveliest of nymphs. But he had no interest in any of them.
  • May he who loves no others love himself.
  • Hera cursing Echo. She will never use her tongue again, except to repeat the words of others.
  • Farewell--farewell.
  • Narcissus went in search of his companions. When he called, Is anyone here? she repeated, Here---Here.. He shouted, Come!, and she answered joyfully, Come!, and stepped away from the trees. But he turned in angry disgust, Not so. I will die before I give you power over me, and all she could do was repeat, I give you power over me. But he had already left.
  • One of those whom he wounded prayed a prayer and the gods answered. She prayed that he would fall in love with himself.
  • As Narcissus bent over a pool for a drink, he fell in love with himself. He died while staring at his own reflection.
  • When the nymphs went in search of his body, they found the most beautiful flower where his body was supposed to lay. They called it by his name, Narcissus.
