Storyboard Text

  • Female students tend to work harder and accept responsibility for their failures, but usually don't take credit for their successes. They purposefully underestimate their abilities and often take less demanding math and science courses.
  • Male students tend to be more action-oriented and aggressive. They don't mature as quickly as female students and tend to rely on exploration and examination, so sitting still for long periods of time can be difficult.
  • Non-sexist language should be used in the classroom. Self-esteem and career planning, as well as higher expectations in traditionally "male" subjects, need to be made a priority for girls. Coping skills and extra practice in writing and reading need to be a priority for male students. All students need differentiation and lessons that incorporate their strengths as well as helping to support their weaknesses, regardless of gender.
  • Unconscious biases, like teachers calling on male students 3 times as often as female students, need to be corrected. High expectations need to be equal as does corrective criticism and opportunities for growth in all subjects. We are all capable of great things whether male, female, or otherwise!
