ADHD is thought to arise from several neural differences; therein, the dopamine and norepinephrine pathways. Specifically, within these, the mesocorticolimbic dopamine pathway, which is part of the dopamine reward system, and the locus coeruleus-noradrenergic pathway, which is the part responsible for regulating arousal and priming the brain's neurons for activation by stimuli.

It can be treated in several ways, however, the gold standard is stimulant medications. Common sense would tell you that giving a stimulant to someone who is already overstimulated would exacerbate the latter, the reality is the exact opposite. Stimulants, such as Amphetamine, have a calming effect, allowing for better focus on tasks at hand. For 85% of people suffering from ADHD, these medications are effective.

Medication is not a One-Size-Fits-All solution and is many times co-administered along with counselling which gives the patient methods to reduce stress related to their diagnosis. Such coping methods include seeking a specialized education plan, stress management activities. Finally, even though there is no concrete link between eating and ADHD symptoms, I find that when I eat unhealthy foods I tend to notice an undesirable increase in my symptoms.
Lack Of Interest or Attention
Many of the symptoms associated with ADHD lessen or completely disappear by the time the patient reaches adulthood; however, for some people, this is not the case. Oftentimes in these cases, the patient will see a reduction in overt hyperactive symptoms - and an increase in internal hyperactivity such as the feeling of constant mental activity, and restlessness.
ADHD symptoms include Hyperactivity, Impulsiveness, Executive Function problems, and Inatenntion. These symptoms must be present for more than 6 months and must cause problems in at least 2 places, such as school and home, to result in a diagnosis.
