Here, the three of them overall discussed many different topics. Specifically, Stalin agreed to join the war against the Japanese, Germany was to be split into four zones each controlled by either the USSR, USA, France, and Britain, berlin was to be divided between the four occupying powers, the nazi war criminals should be hunted down and punished, countries that had been freed from nazi control would be able to hold free elections, the 'big three' agreed to join a new 'united nations', and the 'big three' agreed that eastern Europe would be seen as 'soviet sphere of influence'.

After the agreements reached at Yalta were made public in 1946, they were harshly criticized in the United States. This was because, as events turned out, Stalin failed to keep his promise that free elections would be held.
