Wow, even though birds and butterflies look really different, they both fly. They must be related.
Actually, birds and butterflies have no common ancestor. Birds have evolved from dinosaurs and butterflies from an ancient fly.
The fact that they both evolved to fly is just because their environments required the ability to fly because it would be more beneficial.
The wings of both species are analogous features. Features that have a similar function, but don't have any evolutionary relation. They also don't have similar structures.
You might find this hard to believe, but we are actually related to birds through a common ancestor that lived millions of years ago.
Becuase of our relation, bird wings and human arms are structurally similar. These are called homologous features. Similar evolution and structure, but different function.
So if birds are related to dinosaurs and we are related to birds, does that mean I am related to dinosaurs?
