Storyboard Text

  • I thought I had hit rock bottom when I could not manage to quit using drugs. I now realize that I have hit rock bottom with this overdose and I NEED to quit.
  • Another cause of original sin that I am seeing in you is alienation from others. When someone feels lonely or is judged by people, they are not in solidarity with them. They have no one to turn to and in result can’t sympathize with others. This causes them to turn to drugs in order to feel good enough or to get their mind off of being judged.
  • Tell me about your situation Luis!
  • I suggest you go to rehab. This will first put the you into solidarity with others. Other people that are addicted to drugs are able to sympathize with one another. Rehab also allows you to displace yourself for another. We learn this through Jesus’ death and rehab allows you to not be selfish because you are not only helping yourself but are helping others.
  • You seem to have a strong alienation from yourself. This is one of the causes of original sin. You are getting high to serve yourself . The drugs make you start telling yourself lies about how everything is fine, but in reality it is not. You are weak because you are independent from God and dependent on drugs.
  • I was also bullied as a child.
  • I suggest you join a church group. If they are not being accepted by others, church groups will accept them. Instead of turning to drugs, you need to turn to people to talk about your problems. This way you will be in solidarity with others and able to sympathize with people.

  • I need more meaning in my life as well.
  • As I said before, rehab and church groups are a great way to put meaning in your life. In this way you can still be connected to the source of life , meaning and purpose. Once you are able to stay sober you need to turn to God and start to to ask God for help with certain circumstances rather than turning to drugs to fill the void.
  • I never thought about it from a religious point. When I get out of here I am going to turn my life around.
  • Remember Luis all suffering is redeemed through Christ's resurrection and a new way of life is opened up. You can do it I believe in you.
  • Addiction was not easy to overcome. Through Christ's redemptive work, I was able to overcome it and become a doctor at the same hospital I overdosed at. Christ's resurrection paved a new way of life for me and redeemed my suffering.
