- Victor received a letter from his father stating that william had been murdered and that he had gone missing on a family walk and early the next morning william was found laying in grass with prints on his necks showing that he had been strangled. Victor immediately rides a carriage to Geneva..(chapter 7)
- "Come, dearest victor, you alone can console Elizabeth, She weeps continually, and accuses herself unjustly as the cause of his death."
- "I did confess, but I confessed a lie, that I might obtain absolution, but now that falsehood lies heavier at my heart than all my other sins.
- Victor returns home and gets information that Justine has been accused of murdering william. Victor protest that Justine is innocent but won't speak up about it. (chapter 7). Justine also confesses that her confession was a lie and her confessor threatened and bullied her into believing that she was guilty. (chapter 8)
- " you shall not die! you, my playfellow, my sister, perish on the scaffold!
