- Children, England has gotten too unsafe. I am sending you three over to the United States to live until it's safe here. Everything will be alright. Listen to your sister and the adults while you're there. Understand that this was a very difficult decisionfor me and your father to make.
- We'll be okay guys, you'll see!
- Alright Children, It's time to go to bed.
- During World War 2 in the 1940s, women and children from England were shipped to different countries because England wasn't safe from German bombing. The operation was called Operation Pied Piper. From 1939 to 1946,around 3 million people were shipped to countries like Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States.
- Soon Siblings' Emily who was 13, Mary who was 8, and Peter who was 4, were sent on a train to a port where they would board a ship to head to America and a new life with a new family. It was very hard for them to say goodbye to their mother but she promised them that she would go to the country side which was a bit safer than London.
- Aboard the ship, Emily waited nervously for the day they would land in America. She knew that they may not end up with a good family and that she may get separated from her sister and brother. But she wasn't going to let that happen. She knew she had to be brave for her mum and dad who was fighting in the war.
- Hi guys! I'm Anna. and I'm going to be taking care of you while you live here.
- Finally the ship was about to land on American soil. In the distance the siblings saw the Statue of Liberty. They had heard stories about it but had never seen it up close. Seeing the statue gave them hope that maybe they would be okay and that the war would end soon.
- Once the boat landed in New York, the children were put on a train to Pennsylvania. That was where they were going to meet their new family. Emily was nervous but tried not to show it. Despite her efforts, Peter was upset because he missed their mum very much. They all did.
- When they got to the station in Pennsylvania, they saw a bunch of women who came to take children. Not many were willing to have three and slowly their was no children left at the station besides the three siblings. But then a nice young lady named Anna came and said she would take the children. She was very eager to take them, which made Emily feel a lot better about their future.
