Babylon was situated at where modern days Iraq is. It resides by two major rivers: Euphrates and Tigris.

Ancient Babylon became a major empire under my control (Hammurabi). I am best know for my creation of the "Code of Hammurabi", the earliest and most comprehensive lawset. I made Babylon the culture, politic, and power center of entire Mesopotamia.

Guy on the left is Nabopolassar, on the right is Nebuchadnezzar.
Nabopolassar set the foundations for another thriving period of the empire. Nebuchadnezzar, king after Nabopolassar, made Neo-Babylon to its peak.

This magnificent architecture showed how Babylon work their way back to thrive after their previous defeat to enemies, illustrating its tenacious vitality.
I am now at the place where it can best represent Babylon. It is one of our highlights and considered as one of the Seven Wonders of the world, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

Cyrus the Great
Everything has to come to an end, we are defeat and conquered by the Persians, war led by king Cyrus the Great in 539 BCE. However he was not very cruel and respected our customs, we eventually got incorporated into his empire.

This legal code act as a mouldboard. Many laws and legal codes nowadays are based on the style of the Code of Hammurabi.
This garden was filled with lush vegetation and well-designed building structure. Built by King Nebuchdanezzar ii at about 600 BCE. The garden showcased Babylon's skillful craftsmenship and engineering ability.
Babylon used Cuneiform as their writing system. It was first established by the Sumerians. This system use wedge-shaped marks pressed into clay tablets. People used it for record-keeping, establishing laws, communication, and creating literary works.
Babylon's social structure was hierarchical. As you can see on the right, with the king on the top, followed by priest and merchant, then artist and craftmen, last with slaves and farmers.
Unfortunately, good time don't last long, not too long after Babylon thrived. We were conquered by the Assyrians in 729 BCE. We remained under their control for about a century. Their king, Tiglath-Pileser iii, directly controled Babylon people and territory. From now on, people tried to rebel.
People finally see some light at the end of the tunnel. A guy name Nabopolassar, our later king, led a successful rebellion and helped us gained independence and prominence again when Neo-Babylon empire was established at 626 BCE..
