  • In the poem The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe. Poe is reading the book Forgotten Lore When he hears a knock, he decides to go and see who it is.As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.“’Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door—
  • Nevermore
  • Nevermore
  • The scholar, disturbed by a soft tapping, rises. He approaches the heavy wooden door, hesitant, and opens it to find emptiness and the echoes of his own fears."Eagerly I wished the morrow;—vainly I had sought to borrow from my books surcease of sorrow."
  • Oh, Lenore
  • In the doorway, a spectral raven enters, wings outstretched. Its eyes gleam with a mysterious intelligence, and it perches atop a bust of Pallas, casting a shadow over the room."Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter, in there stepped a stately Raven of the saintly days of yore."
  • The scholar, a mix of fascination and fear, addresses the raven. The room is filled with an otherworldly stillness as the raven gazes with an unsettling wisdom."But the Raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only that one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour."
  • The room darkens as the scholar, consumed by sorrow and longing, implores the raven for solace and answers. Shadows deepen, reflecting the protagonist's growing despair."Doubtless,' said I, 'what it utters is its only stock and store, caught from some unhappy master whom unmerciful Disaster followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore—"
  • The final panel reveals the scholar on his knees, looking up at the raven with desperation. The raven, unmoved, delivers its chilling final word, the room engulfed in darkness."Quoth the Raven, 'Nevermore.'
