  • Unpopularity of Charles I
  • I do not like King Charles. He ignored the Petition to Right that he accepted and unlawfully imprisoned my son.
  • Why not? Oh really I can not believe I have not heard about that, That is not right at all! I do not think I like him either.
  • Civil War
  • Overthrow of Charles I
  • Charles I was very unpopular because he later ignored the Petition to Right that he originally accepted. He did this because he realized that it limited his power. He also tried to impose more ritual on the Church of England.
  • Restoration of the Stuart monarchy
  • I cannot believe that Charles II suspended the laws we passed.
  • During the Civil War England, the Cavaliers, and the Roundheads were at war because of complaints towards England. The Roundheads won due to a largely New Model Army of Oliver Cromwell who was a military genius.
  • Glorious Revolution
  • I am grateful that we finally have a new leader.
  • Charles I was overthrown due to the fact that he accepted the Petition to Right but then he ignored it later on because it limited his power. He did this because it placed limits to his ability to tax, imprision citizens without cause, and institute martial law.
  • English Bill of Rights
  • I have to say that I am very happy that the king and queen have to follow the same laws as everyone!
  • The restoration of the Stuart monarchy had problems with the goverment because Parliament kept much of the power it had won and continued to play an important role in goverment.
  • Good thing we forced him back down and passed the Test Act.
  • The Glorious Revolution had king James II overthrown because his religion had put him at odds with the non-Catholic people and other people as well. This made the people want a new leader so they invited William of Orange to invade England and so he did and so did James II daughter.
  • Me too. I Couldn''t stand king James II.
  • The English Bill of Rights allowed everyone including the king or queen to have to follow the same laws as everyone else. It also helped create a system of goverment based on the rule of law and a freely elected Parliament.
  • Yes, I am very happy as well it has gone on long enough that the king and queen didn''t have to follow the same laws.
