Young boys end up deserted on an island after their plane had crashed and two boys, Ralph and Piggy find a conch shell that they use to call on any survivors.
Chapter 4 - Painted Faces and Long Hair
One of the biguns, or older children, named Jack, used Piggy's glasses to shine a ray from the sun onto a pile of wood to start a signal fire.
Chapter 5 - Beast From Water
While Jack unsucessfully hunts again, Ralph and another bigun named Simon build shelters for all of the boys to sleep in. Things get heated when Ralph and Jack get into an argument about whether building shelters or hunting is more important.
Chapter 6 - Beast From Air
Ralph and Piggy notices a ship out in the distance. The only problem is that the signal fire went out because Jack and his hunters were hunting. Ralph got really upset with Jack.
No the fire is out!
The little ones, or younger children, mention that they have seen a beast roaming around while they were clearly dreaming while the others are busy. Additionally, they claim that it is aquatic in nature, which worries everyone as they are stranded on an island and surrounded by water. They remain alert.
A dead parachutist from the aerial battle over the island lands on some branches on the mountain next to Sam Eric, the twins also known as Samneric, as they watch the signal fire at night. The "beast" appeared to be moving because of the wind. They fled to tell Ralph while they were terrified, and the next morning they went back to look.
