Storyboard Text

  • Early Paleolithic humans were nomadic. They would walk on foot in a search for animals to hunt. They would travel constantly. They lived as hunter-gatherers because they didn't know how to farm.
  • Eventually, fire was discovered. This provided light, cooking, allowed them to smelt and create tools/technology, and provided warmth to protect themselves from harsh climates. This is considered one of the most important discoveries of mankind.
  • The use of fire allowed early humans to smelt and make tools. These tools would help advance them technologically and were improved constantly. A great improvement from banging rocks on each other. Because StoryboardThat doesn't have any images for ancient tools, I cannot provide an image.
  • Eventually, early humans discovered that planting seeds and taking care of them would grow plants. This is known as the farming revolution and is one of the most important events in the paleolithic period.
  • Because of this advancement, humans could now stay in one place. Settlements and small communities were set up. Small houses were now a thing and humans were overall much safer . Life expectancy was estimated to have been greatly improved because of shelter protecting people from the harsh environments, and because hunting was less dangerous because it was less needed.
  • Using spit, blood, water, clay, and dyes, cave art was made. Depictions such as hunters and animals helped us understand what life was like in the paleolithic times. The image above represents a painting of a group of hunters attempting to kill the horse for food.
