This was the first battle of the entire war. It took place on April 19, 1775. In the Lexington battle, the British won but in the battle of Concord America won and the red coats retreated back to Boston many were killed on the way. The British commander was Colonel Francis Smith. The American commander was Captain John Parker.

The Battle of Bunker Hill took place on June 17, 1775. The British couldn't take Boston so they took Bunker and Breed hill. The Battle of Bunker Hill took place mostly on Breed's Hill. It's only called the Battle of Bunker Hill because the army thought they were on Bunker Hill. The British were led up the hill by General William Howe. The Americans were led by Colonel William Prescott. The British army won but they lost hundreds of soldiers and many officers.

The British Army was surrounded in Yorktown. They were outnumbered by the French and American troops. For eleven days the American forces bombarded the British. The British general, Cornwallis, sent out the white flag for surrender. At first, he made requests about the surrender but the American General, Goerge Washington, disagreed. Finally, Cornwallis agrees and the battle ends. September 28, 1781 – October 19, 1781
