The Adventures of Toto
He was put away in a little closet, fastened securely to a peg in the wall.
Grandfather bought Toto from a tonga driver for a sum of 5 rupees as he thought that Toto looked very out of place with the tonga driver.
We found the wallpaper torn and my coat in shreds!!!
A few hours later...
Toto was transferred the big cage in the servants quarters with the other animals.
I'm taking Toto with me to Saharanpur.
Grandfather had to leave for Saharanpur the next day to collect his pension.
A big black canvas kit bag with some straw was provided for him for the train ride.
But he wouldn't let the other animals sleep!!
Toto remained in the bag until Saharanpur station, there he popped out of the bag scaring the poor ticket collector.
Once Toto almost boiled himself alive, while taking a bath in boiling water.
You have a dog. You must pay for it.
Grandmother saved him just in time.
Grandfather tried to persuade the Ticket collector that Toto was not a dog but in vain.
Its NOT a dog!!
Another time, Toto stuffed himself with pulao (rice) from our dining table. My grandmother screamed and my aunts rushed forward.
Toto threw a plate at grandmother and my aunts received a glass of water in the face.
When grandfather arrived, Toto made his exit through the window.
Grandmother screamed and my aunts rushed forward.
You little brat! Leave the rice!
Toto was too mischievous to be kept in the house but he was part of the family now so we couldn't send him away.
Toto lived happily in his tree house but would occasionally come into our house.
Toto CANNOT live in this house
So i built him a tree house in our garden.
