The Stamp Act (1765): British Parliament passes the “Stamp Act.” It imposed a tax on all papers and official documents in the American colonies. These taxes were meant to recoup British costs after the 7 Years War.
Hey could you give us some money since we lost all of it while protecting you
Okay then we'll just tax you
No
SPIC(E)- Economic: The Stamp Act lead to the colonists boycotting British goods. After a few years, the Stamp Act was repealed. This effected the British economy since no one was buying their stuff and they were losing money fast.
This is horrible
I stamp this paper and you have to pay for it
The Boston Massacre (1770): A series of acts and taxes lead to American colonists getting frustrated. They saw it was unfair. American colonists and British soldiers began to fight in Boston. They threw snowballs and rocks at the soldiers. This lead to bloodshed.
Get out of here!
(S)PICE- Social: After the Boston Massacre, the tensions between the Colonists and the British arose. This lead to colonists wanting to rebel and fight for independence. Anyone who showed support to the British would be punished by the colonists
We hate the British!
Attack him!
Well I don't
The Intolerable Acts (1774): A series of British measures were passed and designed to punish the Massachusetts colonists for the Boston Tea Party. The four harsh laws were: Boston Port Act, the Massachusetts Government Act, the Administration of Justice Act, and the Quartering Act.
You all have to follow these laws because of what you did
These are all intolerable and unjust!
S(P)ICE- Political: The government became stricter added new laws. This changed the way the government treated the colonists. This was also their attempt at controlling them. We would later find out that this did not work.
Now they have no choice but to listen to us!
