  • There was a man named Kupe who lived on Hawaiki. He was known for being fearless and unafraid maori warrior
  • you shell never set foot around our island you beast!
  • One beautiful morning Kupe went to his favourite fishing ground. He said a karakia while he was fishing, but when he pulled it up from the depths of the moana and the bait was gone...
  • At last my waka is doe i shell name it Matahorua
  • The next day Kupe set to the other side of the island to where Muturangi lived, Kupe knew that Muturangi had a huge wheke as a pet. Kupe was determined to slay his Muturangis pet after what he did.
  • Out of nowhere Muturangi wheke grips onto the waka trying to capsize it. Kupe cuts off the tentacle, the wheke struggles to grip onto the waka Kupe strikes again and again until the wheke gives up. Kupe points to the wheke and says a spell that it would never bother them again.
  • Kupe started to make a waka after days of working hard he had finally finished. Kupe had named the waka Matahorua. Kupe and his whanau and many brave warriors and had boarded on to the waka and set out on their journey.
  • Kupe and his whanau had been sailing for days and days. Until one morning Kupes wife spotted land just a few kilometres away. Kupe sails to the land. Kupe had landed on the east coast of Aotearoa, Kupe and his whanau live happily.
