Tommy is on his way to a basketball practice and he is driving himself for the first time ever. He needs help parking can you help him?
Tommy just drove 24 feet diagonally from the parking lot he needs to know how far his car is from the side of the parking lot. He knows he took a 45-degree turn into the parking lot and uses it to find the distance from the side of the parking lot. He does this be using Sin45=x/24. X=17.0 feet.

Tommy is interested in finding out what the area of the parking lot is and knows that using Herons formula. He knows the length of all sides of the parking lot and they are 17.0 ft, 19.0 ft, and 25.5 ft. S=(17.0+19.0+25.5)/2. S=30.5ft next he uses         the formula A=    30.5(30.5-17)(30.5-19)(30.5-25.5)    =153.9ft. Tommy finds that it is 153.9 feet.

Now that Tommy is parked he decides to head inside and warm up. while he is warming up he decides to try and bounce the ball into the hoop from 2π away. The ball is dropped from a height of 10ft and Tommy knows the midline is at 5ft. these distances tell Tommy that his amplitude is 5ft. Tommy decides to graph and set up an equation as to where he needs to bounce the ball. He sets up the equation Y=5 cos(x)+5. he then moves on to graph it.
Tommy made the shot and ended up impressing his coaches with his basketball skill and his math skills. Tommy is very proud of his accomplishments and is really happy everything worked out.
