  • Those are funny names
  • The state that you may probably find yourself in is called REM, short for Rapid Eye Movement Sleep. In this state your body can experience a vivid dream. So it has to do with what you're experiencing now.
  • The part of your brain that these come from is called the Hippocampus. There's also another part called the Amygdala that play a role in your vivid dreams too. 
  • So maybe I should lay off scary movies before bed
  • The amygdala can be described as the brain's "fear center". One specific part is retrieving emotional memories and that can play a part in your nightmares. It could be something that bothers you.
  • The hippocampus on the other hand stores new information and also has to do with memories, therefore these can be working while you're sleeping and when all are put together can cause your nightmares.
