  • Yeah, let's do it!

  • Climax
  • In the summer of 2020, my friend (Iris), her brother (Marcus), her dad, and I had decided to drive to the Maumee River. We arrived at a small parking space and walked down a path headed toward the river.
  • Falling Action
  • Swim diagonally!
  • When we finished walking down the path and arrived at the river, we could all see that it was very shallow. Iris suggested that we try to cross it. Marcus and I agreed, and her dad was fine with us trying. By the time we were a quarter of the way there, the water was up to my waist. I started to think that we should turn back.
  • Resolution
  • We've made it!
  • We eventually made it to the heart of the river, and the water only came up to our knees. But since the rapids were extremely strong in the middle, Marcus slipped on a rock. While me and Iris were struggling to pull him back, the rapids caused me to slip on a rock, too! Then, both Marcus and I got swept away by the rapids.
  • Help!!
  • Help!!
  • As it turns out, we were actually on a diagonal slope heading down, and we were at the very top of it. No wonder the water only came up to our knees! While Marcus and I were being pulled down the river, I suddenly remembered that when you're stuck in the rapids, you're supposed to swim diagonally downstream to the river bank. So I shouted, Swim diagonally!, as loud as I could. By then Iris had swam after us so she heard me yell that. Together, we all swam diagonally to the shore.
  • When we made it to the riverbank (which at this point was very far from the place where we had started), Iris, Marcus, and I headed up the river to the place where Iris's dad was standing. After that, we hung out for a little while more, but then headed back to Iris's house. That day I had learned a very important lesson; always be cautious about whatever you do.
