- After discovering a young boy stealing food from the spice shop, Otto rushes the boy into the Annex to eliminate the risk of being found or sold out to Nazis.
- A child!
- Were you trying to rob us?
- Yes... I need the food, I am starving! Are you hiding from the Nazis?
- You need to quickly come with us or we will all be in grave danger.
- Slide: 2
- So have all of you been hiding in here since the Nazis came to town? I heard if I tell them where you are I will get a lot of money I could use for food.
- Yes but we have had no choice. The Nazis are killing innocent Jews and sending them away to camps. Please we can not be discovered we will give you food if you promise not to tell.
- Deal. Despite seeming like a villain, I understand what your family is going through because my friend was sent away. After that my parents got taken away for being in contact with his parents, leaving me to fend for myself.

- My pleasure. Just remember you're still young, so you don't want to get in the habit of crimes because you are a kind kid.

- Otto lets the boy stay for night so he has a more comfortable place to sleep. Early in the morning he takes the boy downstairs with some food and they say their goodbyes.
