- This is an example of Verbal Irony because the narrator stated in the story saying "I loved the old man". The old man had never wronged him and had never given him an insult. The only thing that had bothered the narrator was the old man's eye. The narrator would creep on the old man while he slept not to take care of him but to find the right moment to kill the old man.
- This is an example of Dramatic Irony because the officers did not know there was a body underneath the floor. The characters besides the narrator did not know that there was a dead body under the floor and we the readers did know that there was a body. The officers did not suspect anything because the narrator was talking to them well mannered and calm.
- This is an example of situational Irony because the insane narrator confessed in the end. No one would have thought that the narrator would have confessed in the end. The narrator only killed the old man because of his vulture eye.
