  • Duke Orsino arrives at the lady’s mansion with Cesario, they meet Feste. The Duke gives Feste 3 gold coins and tells him to bring Lady Olivia.

  • Who does beguile you? who does do you wrong? (5.1.140)
  • Hast thou forgot thyself? is it so long?Call forth the holy father. (5.1.141-142)
  • Ay me, detested! how am I beguiled! (5.1.139)
  • Viola and Orsino spot Antonio in the custody of the guards. Orsino talks with Antonio and Antonio tries to sell Cesario out, because he thinks it’s Sebastion betraying him.

  • O, welcome, father!Father, I charge thee, by thy reverence,Here to unfold, though lately we intendedTo keep in darkness what occasion nowReveals before ’tis ripe, what thou dost knowHath newly pass’d between this youth and me. (5.1.150-155)
  • A contract of eternal bond of love,Confirm’d by mutual joinder of your hands,Attested by the holy close of lips,Strengthen’d by interchangement of your rings;And all the ceremony of this compactSeal’d in my function, by my testimony:Since when, my watch hath told me, toward my graveI have travell’d but two hours. (5.1.156-163)

  • Olivia is here and sees Cesario with Orsino and she is confused to why Cesario is with Orsino.
  • Enter Sebastian!
  • I am sorry, madam, I have hurt your kinsman:But, had it been the brother of my blood,I must have done no less with wit and safety.You throw a strange regard upon me, and by thatI do perceive it hath offended you:Pardon me, sweet one, even for the vowsWe made each other but so late ago. (5.1.209-215)

  • Olivia cries because she thinks she’s been deceived by Cesario, the Duke wants to leave but Olivia doesn't want Cesario to go and calls her "husband" which confuses Orsino.

  • Her husband, sirrah! (5.1.146)
  • Come, away! (5.1.143)
  • Husband!? (5.1.145)
  • Cesario
  • No, my lord, not I. (5.1.147)
  • Whither, my lord? Cesario, husband, stay. (5.1.144)
  • Ay, husband: can he that deny? (5.1.145)
  • Lady Olivia
  • The Priest confirms that Cesario has taken Olivia’s hand (but it was actually Sebastian). Orsino is fuming.
  • Duke Orsino
  • My lord, I do protest– (5.1.169)
  • O, do not swear!Hold little faith, though thou hast too much fear. (5.1.170-171)
  • O thou dissembling cub! what wilt thou beWhen time hath sow’d a grizzle on thy case?Or will not else thy craft so quickly grow,That thine own trip shall be thine overthrow?Farewell, and take her; but direct thy feetWhere thou and I henceforth may never meet. (5.1.164-168)

  • Everything gets interrupted when Sebastian runs up to them without noticing Cesario and apologizes to Olivia for hurting her uncle. Everyone is dumbfounded and speechless.
