  • I want to tell my friend about my game...
  • Hey! Guess what - I played a PVP game in Minecraft with my friend and my friend didn't know what was in store for him. I challenged him and he thought he was going to win for sure. So I...
  • WHAT HAPPENED
  • I can't wait to tell my friend about how I beat my friend in a PVP in Minecraft. I know she likes Minecraft and it feels good sharing with her.
  • This isn't fun for me. He won't let me talk...
  • 10 min later
  • and I .....
  • It feels so good to share this with my friend. I'm happy she's letting me talk!
  • I'm upset. He's being unfair and bragging. I'm leaving.
  • Huh? What did I do wrong? Why is she leaving? I was sharing about my interest.

  • WHAT COULD HAPPEN
  • I can't wait to tell my friend about how I beat my friend in a PVP in Minecraft. I know she likes Minecraft and it feels good sharing with her.
  • I'm going to let him know what I want. I deserve time to talk too
  • (insert advocacy statement) E.g.: That's cool that you beat your friend. I'd like a turn to talk now. I've got important things I want to share too.
  • 2 min later
  • You're right. I'm sorry. I kinda got carried away. I do that sometimes.
  • Oops. I care about my friend and didn't realize I was talking so much. I'm working on recognizing that. Good thing she told me.
  • I'm happy he listened.
  • So.. I want to tell you about this cool game I've been playing.
  • Sometimes, people are so passionate about an area of interest that they get lost in it and don't recognize the listener might want to also speak or might not be interested in the topic. This can feel really bad. It can be helpful to advocate for what you want so the other person knows. It's also okay to excuse yourself from the conversation if you feel uncomfortable. E.g., "that's cool - I gotta go!".
  • This sounds cool!
