  • In the year 1741, Jonathan Edwards, who was an outstanding thealogian during the Great Awakening, spoke a sermon called Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God. This sermon was one of the most famous events in colonial history and the climax to further religous developments in the colonial America's. This type of sermon was not what the colonists were used to hearing,
  • The Puritans beleived in the authority of the bible alone. Theye were not a fan of the way that the Catholic church had taught the bible. The Puritans beleived in justification through faith alone, saying that every member should function as their own preacher. They also beleived that when you beileive in God, you entered into aCovenent of Grace, meaning God would save you, and in turn, you would do the Lord's work.
  • The Puritans beleived that it was their responsibility to create a comunity that followed God's law, escencially a Model society. It was their goal to demonstrate to England how a Godly society should behave. Each member had a duty to fufill. In order to be a full member of society, you had to profess your faith. This led to people falsley saying that they beleived in God in order to fit in. Over time, there were few actual beleivers left.
