  • Hi! My name is Evan! I will be showing you different chemical reactions, how they are made, and what date and place the first chemical reaction happened! So, let's jump into it!
  • Here we are, at a factory! This is where lots of artificial sweeteners are made. Artificial sweeteners are zero calories and they are a substitute for sugar! There is chemistry behind this amazing substitute, let's check it out! Artificial sweeteners are made with the chemicals of: phenylalanine, erythritol, xylitol, sorbitol, amino acids, and aspartame. Sometimes, there are other chemicals mixed with it, though. Artificial sweeteners were first made in 1879 by Remsen and Fahlberg in Germany. People use it often today when we don't want to eat or drink a bunch of calories, some people drink lots of diet sodas today instead of drinking regular sodas.
  • We have some toothpaste here in this bathroom. There are multiple chemicals in toothpaste, so that the paste can keep your teeth strong and white. Some of the chemicals in this toothpaste are: sodium flouride, sodium monofluorophosphate, and stannous fluoride. Toothpaste was made by people in China and India around 500 B.C.!
  • We are in the bathroom, again! We are going to look at common chemicals in shampoo. We use shampoo to keep our hair clean, and make our hair smell good! Shampoo was first created by Hans Schwarzkopf in 1933 with soap. Shampoo is made of: sodium lauryl sulfate and cocamidopropyl betaine in water.
  • We are going to look at chemicals in body wash, too! Along with shampoo! Body wash is usually made of: petroleum derivatives and mineral oil. We use body wash to get rid of germs on our body ans cleanse our body. Body wash was first made by William Shepphard in 1865, it was most likely made in the United States.
  • We're in the kitchen, let's look at chemicals in coffee. People drink coffee because it is delicious, and because the caffeine in the coffee makes them wake up. These are the chemicals in coffee: caffeine, tannin, fixed oil, carbohydrates, and proteins. According to a story written in 1671, coffee was first discovered by Kaldi in the 9th century in Ethiopia. These are just some chemicals in some drinks and care products, not all chemicals. See you again next time!
