a man called: William Hobson came to New Zealand in January 1840, he arrived on the bay of islands to get all the mauri to sight a a special treaty.
late January 1840 the British invited mauri from the northlands to a hui at Waitangi to meet with William Hobson (the first governor of nz)

the day of the meeting with the chiefs was alot of arguments, "rewa" was upset cause british was taking there land and he wants it back. and does not agree with the treaty. but hona heke and pokai belive that the treaty will stop wars and it would be all good.
5th of February 1840 late that evening the chiefs had many discussions to make about weather not or to sign the treaty into the night te tiriti
on the 6th of February 1840 hona heke was the first chief to sign the treaty then on the 3rd September 1840 - Last signatures signed on the Treaty near Kawhia500 cheifs signed 39 did not sign
