Storyboard Text

  • Three aspects of culture that impact worldviews of Irish people are social organization, arts and literature, and the relationship between food and the economy.
  • “When work or study takes a family member to distant parts of Ireland or to other countries, he or she makes a great effort to return home as often as possible—especially for Christmas.”
  • In other words, this aspect of cultural identity impacts a person’s worldview because it shows that they really care about their families and want to see them and be around them as often as possible. This is especially true for the holidays.
  • “An Coimisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha (The Irish Dancing Commission) was formed in 1927 to establish formal standards for Irish step dance.”
  • This aspect of cultural identity shapes Irish people’s worldviews because without the formal standards for Irish step dance people wouldn’t know how to do it properly. It’s also important because it is a part of Irish dancing history and Irish history itself.
  • “Half of Ireland's population mainly the rural poor were dependent on potatoes”
  • This explains that this aspect of cultural identity impacts a person’s worldview because that means that all of those people who were dependent on potatoes had to find something else to eat or they would die. The fact that they were too reliant on the Irish Lumper didn’t help them.
