  • In the West...The Native people of the Great Plains lived their lives in peace, free from settlers.
  • Meanwhile occurring further East...
  • More incentive for Westward expansion was arising!
  • Yes! The land out west is rich and fertile and they're practically offering it for free!
  • Did you hear about the Homestead Act?
  • My family and I will definitely be moving out West!
  • Mine as well! We're all farmers and new land is just what we need. New advancements in farming only sweeten the pot!
  • Oh no..
  • A flood of white settlers was incoming... What was opportunity for the settlers meant disaster for the people indigenous to the Plains
  • Wow! There's plenty of land. Think of all the opportunity!
  • We'll find some way to get them off of this land..
  • But there are so many American Indians already here. What do we do now?
  • Thousands of buffalo were killed to make room for settlers
  • The Plains Indians lost their land, homes, food, and lives as the settlers pushed them out and massacred them.
  • How about we come to an agreement and settle the fighting? You all can live on these reservations.
  • Many Decades Later...
  • Indigenous people in America continue to suffer from the actions of white settlers as of today. Many native people still live on these small reservations with poor conditions and resources, while people continue to thrive on the land that many natives were killed for.
