When the game is over, I'll remind you to go to the doctors office and get checked out. They'll be able to help. Until then be sure to keep ice on your knees.
Coach! I don't know why, but my knees are in so much pain! The trainer gave me ice to help with pain and swelling. What should I do?
Since you've been playing basketball for such a long time I think it's possible you're currently dealing with osteoarthritis in the knees and ankles. Osteoarthritis is also known as degenerative joint disease. Osteoarthritis occurs when cumulative damage causes degeneration of the cartilage pad. In this case the cartilage pad is degenerating in your knees and ankles causing pain and the inflammation or swelling you noticed.
It was like any other game Doc, but my ankles and knees were in so much pain after I dunked. I practice 24/7 and always give it my all. My knees and ankles have hurt before but I thought it was just from being sore. Until today because I've never been in this much pain. Even the swelling was new. My knee felt stiff, felt like it was grinding instead of just smoothly bending, and felt like it was going to buckle. I almost lost my balance because my knees felt wobbly.
