Gracie Stevens Fever 1793

Fever 1793 is about a girl named Mattie who went through a sickness called yellow fever and how she struggled to make it during the epidemic in the 1700s. My favorite scene that stood out the most for me is when Grandfather died. Mattie and Grandfather just got back from Bush Hill. when they got close to the coffee it was destroyed. After they found out the coffee house was destroyed, Mattie was doing everything she could to keep them alive. She did that by getting food from the garden. When Mattie and Grandfather were sleeping two guys broke in and broke stuff. Then Mattie screamed. It woke Grandfather up. He tried to shoot the robbers. Grandfather was beaten almost to death. Mattiie cut the robber with Grandfather's sword and chased him out of the house. She came back and Grandfather was dying. This is important because it shows that Mattie will now have to fight her battles alone. She will have to find a way to survive on her own.
