In 1831, Catherine became a nun because she always felt a connection with God, strived to be like him and give back to others. She loved everyone and helped anyone in need, just like God.
Catherine made the house that she built for women in need into The Sisters of Mercy, which cared for anyone in need, taught them about God and how kind he is to everyone.
Catherine used to travel around Ireland, looking for people who she thought needed help and took them back to live in The Sisters of Mercy building.
When she wasn't finding marginalised people, she taught children she found and cared for them at the Houses of Mercy.
On 11th November, 1841, when Catherine was 63 years old, Catherine died because her right lung became diseased. By the time she died, 10 Houses of Mercy were created.

Pope Paul VI and Pope John Paul II researched all the deeds she did for God and made her a saint in the 20th century. Pope Paul VI made the beatification for Catherine in 1978 and Pope John Paul II declared her venerable in 1990.
