Storyboard Text

  • Sir if you don't mind me asking where are you from? Have you always lived in Germany?
  • I am originally from Aleppo Syria but I moved to Germany awhile ago.
  • Josef then asked Mahmoud if he wanted to get coffee and chat some more. Mahmoud said yes and they walked to a near by coffee shop.
  • Oh sir do you need any help crossing the street?
  • Mahmoud
  • Josef
  • Oh yes, that would be nice.
  • Oh call me Josef, and I am from Berlin Germany but I haven't lived here my whole life. How about you?
  • Well my journey started when me and my family we had to leave Syria because of the war between the Rebel army and Bashar al-Assad, then our house got bombed and we decided to leave. The journey to get to Germany was also very dangerous and at times I had to act like an adult. What about you?
  • Mahmoud
  • Josef then asked Mahmoud what his journey was like, coming from Syria to Germany.
  • Well for me my journey started in 1938 when storm troopers came in and destroyed everything in my house. Then they took my father and sent him to a concentration camp. The only way we could get him back was to leave Germany forever.
  • Well Mahmoud, what brings you all the way from Syria to Germany?
  • Josef
  • Well during my journey me and my family left Syria and went to Turkey, then we took a raft to Greece but our raft popped and almost everyone on board drowned. I had to be the adult and give my baby sister Hana away to another boat so that she wouldn't drown.
  • Mahmoud
  • Well then we finally made it to Greece and we were on our way to Macedonia, then Serbia, and then Hungary. When we were on the Hungary and Serbia border the Hungarian soldiers threw tear gas at us and put everyone trying to cross border in a prison for refugees.
  • Oh I'm sorry about what you had to go through no one should ever have to. Please tell me more.
  • Josef
  • That's horrible.
