  • I am on a call with the insurance agent. He says my card has been blocked andI need to immediately get a new card issued else I will lose my insurance coverage. Ineed to give him some of my details for the same.
  • What? Disconnect the call immediately! It's a vishing call!
  • Vishing? What's that?
  • Vishing is a form of attack that attempts to trick victims into giving upsensitive personal information over the phone.
  • Oh, is it that common?

  • Just by gaining access to the information, the attacker might impersonateyou to cause financial damage to you. Additionally, they might sell you information on thedark web which may lead to more intense cyberattacks against you
  • That’s scary! How do we know it’s a vishing call?
  • There are certain ways you can identify a vishing call:Calls from your insurance company asking for personal, medical, or financialinformationCalls claiming your credit/debit card or account has expired/will soon expire/willbe blockedCalls claiming to be from your telecom partnerMissed calls from unknown or international numbersIf you receive a missed call from an unknown number, NEVER call back. Givingthese foreign numbers a callback is also a bad idea.Calls claiming to be from mobile wallet executives offering assistance with mobilebanking are also on trend these days. Their ultimate goal is to obtain sensitivebanking information.Calls from the tax department or any other government agencyAn officer from a government agency, mostly the tax department, asking for yourbanking or personal details is next to impossible.
