  • There are 540 rooms in the Capitol Building!
  • The Capitol Building serves as the Legislative Branch for the United States. The original building was completed in 1826 and was designed by Dr. William Thornton. The dome of the building is made of 8,909,200 pounds of cast iron! In the prayer room of the capitol building, which is used as a quiet place for prayer or meditation, is the Bible verse Psalm 16:1 "Preserve me O God: for in thee do I put my trust.”
  • That's an enormous home for one person!
  • The White House is home to the President of the United States. There are 132 bedrooms in this one house! Even though George Washington oversaw the construction of this house, our second President, John Adams was the first to live in it. A great Bible verse that would fit well here is Proverbs 16:3: Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. As the president, he should trust God and make biblical decisions.
  • Inside the monument, the Lincoln statue is 19 feet tall, and if it stood up, it would be over 27 feet tall! The 36 columns that surround the building symbolize the 36 states in the Union while Lincoln lived. Both his Gettysburg Address and Second Inaugural Address are engraved inside the monument. Lincoln used this verse in one of his speeches: Matthew 18:7: "Woe to the world for temptations to sin!"
  • Wow! that is a huge statue of Abraham Lincoln!
  • The Vietnam War Memorial names more than 58,000 men and women who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. The total length of the wall is 493 feet 6 inches. The memorial was designed by Maya Lin, an architecture student. An applicable Bible verse for this memorial is Psalm 46:1: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” God will always be with us, even in times of trouble, like those troops were in Vietnam.
  • I am so thankful for those brave men who fought for our country.
  • The Jefferson Memorial was dedicated on April 13, 1943, which is the 200th anniversary of his birth. The 26 columns that surround the memorial symbolize the 26 states in the Union when Jefferson died. The statue of Jefferson is 19 feet tall inside. A Bible verse that shows that God will be with you even when leading a huge country is Isaiah 41:10, which says: Don't be afraid for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
  • He was one of our founding fathers!
  • The Martin Luther King Jr Memorial was the first to recognize a Black American on the National Mall. This memorial stands 30 feet high. The memorial is built out of shrimp pink granite and was sculpted by Lei Yixin. One Bible verse Martin Luther King Jr quoted in his famous ‘I have a Dream’ speech is Amos 5:24, which says “But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream.”
  • He made the great 'I Have a Dream' speech!
  • That's an incredible cemetery!
  • The Arlington National Cemetery is 639 acres with about 400,000 buried! There are only two presidents buried there, William Howard Taft and John F. Kennedy. On November 11, 1921, they put in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, to represent all the unknown soldiers. One verse that is at Arlingtion National Cemetery is John 15:13, which says “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
  • The Korean War Memorial has 19 statues that were created Frank Gaylord and they are in proportion number of U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines who served in the war. The Wall of Remembrance includes the names of 36,574 American servicemen and more than 7,200 members of the Korean Augmentation. The memorial was dedicated in 1995. Psalm 121:5 is a wonderful verse to remember, even when going through the Korean War, and it says “The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand.”
  • That's is a unique memorial of the Korean War!
  • The World War II war memorial honors the 16 million who served, the more than 400,000 who died, and all who supported the war effort at home. The 54 granite pillars represent the all the states, territories, and District of Columbia. The memorial was built in September, 2001. When you are going through the hardest times of your life, in this case, World War II, you should remember Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
  • That's really cool they put wreaths on all the pillars!
  • At the 9/11 Pentagon memorial, all 184 benches represent all who died. If the benches faced toward the Pentagon, it means they were on the plane that was hijacked and then crashed, and if the bench faces away from the Pentagon, it means that they were in the Pentagon. At the Age Wall, the wall increasingly gets higher, from three inches, representing the youngest person to die, to 71 inches, representing the oldest person to die. A famous Bible verse that is famous for this memorial is John 3:16 “For God so loved that world that He gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
  • The memorial is right outside that area that is destroyed.
  • In Amish Country, the Amish people are not connected to the electrical grid, which means they don’t have things like TVs, but they do use things like generators to power things. The Amish people first came to Pennsylvania in the 1700s seeking religious freedom. They are known as “Plain People” for their modest dress and simple lifestyle. One verse that describes that we should love everyone, even if they live differently or you do not like is John 15:13 “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”
  • They do live way differently than we do!
  • Mount Vernon was originally built in 1734 and was home to George Washington. Mount Vernon was named after British Admiral Edward Vernon by Washington’s half-brother Lawrence. The estate officially was released to the public in 1860. One Bible verse that George Washington loved and used throughout his life was Micah 4:4 “But they shall sit every man under his vine and his fig tree, and no one shall make them afraid, for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken.”
  • George Washington had a beautiful home!
  • The Washington Mall is a big part of Washington D.C. because it has all the really big and important sites to see like the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial. It is a beautiful area and an amazing area to learn about the United States history and all the important things that have happened in our nation's past.
  • Washington D.C. is an incredible area of land that has all the details of our nation. There are many more sites to see there than all these important sites. These sites are arguably the most popular and best places to see in Washington D.C., but there are many more you could spend your time at.
