- Let's talk about who Jesus, Mary, and Joseph is. We'll start with Mary. She was the mother of Jesus, and part of God's plan. Mary was born without sin, and was foretold to be the mother of Jesus hundreds of years before she was born. When she became a young woman, that was when God revealed His plan to Mary. God had sent the angel Gabriel to tell Mary. Gabriel said to Mary "do not be afraid, Mary, for I come with good news. God has chosen you as the mother of His Son. You will conceive in your womb and bear a son." Mary asked "how is this possible?". The angel replied "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, therefore the child will be born holy. He will be called the Son of God, for nothing will be impossible with God". Mary had the choice to say no, but she believed in God and said yes. Her saying yes showed she trusted God and had faith in Him, making her the first disciple and the Mother of God. We look up to her in times of need, and is a Mother to all of us spiritually.
- Joseph was the man Mary was betrothed to. When he found out she was pregnant, he planned to cancel the marriage. Joseph then had a dream that night where an angel appeared to him. The angel told Joseph that it was okay to marry Mary, and that her child was conceived by the Holy Spirit. Joseph could have ignored the angel, saying that it was just a strange a dream, but he believed the message and married Mary. They went through a lot of criticism, because back then people thought it was wrong to have a child before marriage. When the law was issued that you had to go to your home town for a count, they both went on a journey to Bethlehem, where Jesus was going to be born
- Joseph and Mary traveled to Bethlehem, but when they arrived, there was no vacancy at the motels or houses. The only space available was a stable. Joseph and Mary were tired, and decided the stable was enough for them. That night Mary gave birth to Jesus. On that same night a bright star shone over the stable, which three wise men followed. They traveled a long time, and got to King Herod's kingdom. King Herod was told by them that a new king of the Jews was going to be born, and he wanted all the power to himself. The three wise men were told to find this king and come back to Herod so that he could gift the new king. Herod lied and told them that because he was planning on killing Jesus. The three wise men finally found Jesus in the stable and had each brought a gift for him. They brought him gold, myrrh, and frankincense.
