  • I do not like the East.
  • Daisy had given birth to her daughter and was hoping it was a boy. The nurse told her it was a girl and she "turned [her] head away and wept " (Fitzgerald 17). The author purpose of Daisy disillusionment is to show that Daisy does know that Tom is cheating and does not want her child to experience the same thing from her husband so she hopes that her daughter is "beautiful little fool"(Fitzgerald 17).
  • During the 1920s the time was filled with huge parties. These parties contain the 1920s societies disillusionment as they were trying to escape there reality in a "bar [that] is in full swing" (Fitzgerald 40). The author purpose is to show the 1920s society let down after World War 1 and how through the parties they were trying to fill the void of grief in them.
  • Nick felt a disillusionment for the East that "after Gatsby's death the East was haunted for [him]"(Fitzgerald 176). Nick was disappointed for the way people acted and the things they valued like money, materialistic items, and parties. Nick was disappointed on how little they cared for others which is connects to the common theme reckless disregard for others. The author's propose of show Nick disillusionment is to show the values of the 1920s societies and the wrongs of their values and actions..
