today we are going to be learning about matter. can someone tell me what the three physical properties and an example of them.
the three properties of matter are.. solid, liquid, and gas.
An example of a solid is a rock, glass, & tree. a liquid is.. water, tea, & soup. gas is... oxygen, helium, & propane.
Very good!! now can anyone tell me the movement of particles in each property
the particles in a gas are spread out.
the particles in a solid are close packed and arranged in a regular structure.
the particles in a liquid are slightly less close packed and there is some structure.
Great! next is phase changes. when temperature changes, matter can undergo a phase change. ex: melting (changing from solid to liquid), freezing ( changing from liquid to solid), evaporation (changing from gas to a liquid
does anyone know how to recognize a phase change?
one way to recognize a phase change is the temperature of a substance as it is heated or cooled.
the boiling point is the temperature where the gas from the liquid is pushing the air with the same force the air is pushing back.
melting point is the temperature where molecules in a solid can move past each other and form a liquid
