Hello! Thank you for joining me in this interview, Poppy!
Of course! It started in my home, Moscow in Russia!
We had heard the news of a war and we knew that we would have to find somewhere safe to go, far from Russia.
I just have to learn some things about your journey to America!
We ran, drove, we did anything we could to reach safety. But unfortunately my mother was captured by the Russians for being born a German...
Being pulled by horse through the cold winter was rough. We even got frostbite from the frigid temperatures.
YOU ARE UNDER ARREST!
It'll be okay, we be warm soon.
MOMMA!
so cold...
Luckily for her, but not the country, the Nazis had attacked giving her time to escape back to us, resuming our journey.
Eventually we arrived in Germany after trekking through Poland and other countries. Not yet being overtaken, we found a beautiful place to stay.
It's so nice here!
One day, the sirens went off. We first thought it was a mistake, but my mom had a strange feeling so we went to find shelter,
We scavenged, we survived over the next few years. We had to live in barracks with no bathrooms and no running water. It was terrible.
It's probably just a test!
We have to leave this place
No, we have to go, I don't feel good about this.
But not even 15 minutes after finding shelter, the bomb came, destroying our home.
Eventually we left. It took many years, but we were now ready for the biggest journey, to America!
We'll be there soon...
The journey was long and sometimes dangerous with the reoccurring threat of storms.
Soon, we arrived at the loading docks for the SS America. This ship would transport us across the ocean to America!
AHHH!!
We made it! I was so happy and amazed with the beauty of America. It was a relief to finally be there.
Then, we were off!
Hooray!
The transition was hard, but I was still happy regardless!
Thank you! I always feel a little more complete telling someone else my story.
Bye!
Thank you so much for taking time to do this. I learned a lot of new things about you!
THE END
