- 1. Beowulf, the nephew of Higlac and the greatest of the Geats, comes from Geatland. 2. After numerous assaults on Herot from the monster Hrothgar, Beowulf got word of Grendel's terror and prepared to respond to the call of distress from Herot.
- Approach Supreme Ordeal
- 3. Beowulf accepts the call to get rid of Grendel and travels by ship to Denmark. 4. There he meets with King Hrothgar who is happy that Beowulf came to help.
- Reward, Seizing the Sword The Road Back
- 5. Beowulf learns that no human weapon can harm Grendel, forcing Beowulf to fight with his bare hands. 6. After struggling with Grendel, Beowulf tears off Grendel's arm and Grendel retreats.
- Resurrection Return with Elixir
- 7. King Hrothgar's close friend is killed by Grendel's mother and the fight is not over. 8. Beowulf dives into the lake to battle Grendel's mother. His helmet and sword are destroyed but prevails by striking with the sword of a giant.
- 9. There are rewards in the underwater kingdom, but Beowulf only takes the hilt of the sword and Grendel's head. He emerges from the lake and delivers the head to Herot. 10. Beowulf returns home to Geatland where he becomes king for 50 years.
- 11. Beowulf's kingdom is threatened by a dragon. Beowulf is very old at this point and needs assistance from loyal follower Wiglaf. Beowulf dies after the battle. 12. Beowulf's heroics are recognized internationally and a memorial is built for him off the coast of Geatland.
