  • Mosque
  • There was a well or fountain in the mosque so people can wash their hands and feet before praying as it is a sign of respect to Allah. Under the big dome is a wall that faces the holy site of Mecca. From the minarets, religious officials call Muslims to prayer five times a day. Women had to wear all black and the women and men were separated from each other.
  • Muhammad
  • In AD 610, Muhammad saw his first vision of an angel in a cave while praying. After seeing the vision Muhammad wrote the Quran which is the holy book of Islam. Once the religion of Islam started to get popular, the rulers of Mecca started to become worried about losing their power. The rulers of Mecca began to threaten Muhammad with violence. Muhammad is seen as a prophet which means he is considered the messenger of god.
  • Oasis
  • Oasis were very important to travelers or people who lived in the desert. They were important because oases were used for people to stop and take a break. Animals also take breaks and drink the water because it is really hot in the desert. Many Arabs lived near oases.
