  • What are the pros and cons of coming to the United States for migrants today?
  • Why the US?
  • Maya, our country is too dangerous to keep living as a penniless family on the streets, we need to migrate to America immediately!
  • I completely agree, but why America? What hopes do we have there to make a better life together?
  • PROS
  • BENIFITS OF MIGRATING TO THE US1)-Better Work oppertunities: The demand for workers is growing in the US. We can leave our low paying jobs to gain a better salary from a more profitable one. This will allow unskilled workers like us, to overall be in a better workforce (Migrant labor”).2)-Better Education: The US will allow us to get an easy and accessible education. These well built education programs will provide a better chance at life (Gogol).3)-Better Living Conditions: We can flee our home country to escape violent conflict and to encounter a safe environment. The US is seen to be a secure country that does not include as many crime cases and devastation (Gogol).4)-Healthcare: If we sucessfully get a job in the US, it could reduce the prices of healthcare so we can stay very hale (Bergquist).
  • *BREAKING NEWS* Ukraine is being invaded by Russia's army because the leader is initially trying to raid Ukraines government to gain more power. This outburst has left Ukraine in ruins and has destroyed many facilities including workforces, homes, and stores. -Reporter Anne
  • BUT DONT FORGET ABOUT...
  • The US will hold a stronger future for us rather than this harmful country. Although there are many drawbacks, the benefits are more important.
  • There are many saftey issues within Ukrain including the bombings, attacks and government corruption. These disasters make Maya and Diego realize that living poor is not the plan for their future.
  • TRAVEL TIME!
  • Diego is assembling a list of the conveniences of migrating to the US.
  • THE FUTURE
  • Maya wonders why Diego plans to migrate to the US and by doing so, she discusses the cons of moving there as migrants today. Diego, on the other hand, tries to avoid the disadvantages because he believes that the US holds a brighter future for both of them. Maya realizes his point is correct.
  • Although those points sound luxurious, you have to remember about the many downsides of migration into the US. If we settle in America, a place that doesn't speak our native language, it would be hard to survive and complete daily tasks if we cannot speak or understand what is being said (Malim). Another setback is cultural barriers because many people unintentionally make comments that are very insensitive that relate to how we speak or the color of our skin (Malim). Securing housing is another difficult task because if we are stuck with low paying jobs, it causes us to live crammed under one roof with barely anything to survive (Nuñez).
  • Diego and Maya are now migrating through plane to the US for a while to create a better environment and lifestyle for themselves.
  • I am filled with many feelings of excitement and nervousness while we enter this new country. I am impatient and want to see how our future looks together.
  • Both Diego and Maya are now settled in the US as migrants. Their life is very different now that they are living how they are supposed to. The US has provided the benefits and disadvantages they expected.
  • Me and Maya have amazing high-paying jobs along with a good healthcare system and education. Although there are many cultural setbacks, we try to overcome adversity. We struggled to secure a house at first, but as time progressed we now maintain a beautiful one. Living here has changed our life in many ways.
