- Hey, that's my buddy Steve. I should say hi.
- This restaurant is hiring. Maybe I should apply.
- VROOM!!!
- Hey, Steve!
- Why is he ignoring me?
- Am I hearing things?
- Mike sees his friend, Steve on the sidewalk. He wants to greet him. However, Steve is focused on the flyer for a job interview.
- I hate you, Steve!
- Mike? When did he get here?
- Mike greets Steve, assuming he has heard him. Steve, absorbed in the job application and with all the noise drowned out by the passing bus hears nothing.
- Wait, come back! Mike!
- Mike, confused, ponders why Steve is ignoring him, which makes him upset. Steve on the other hand, does not realize Mike is there, thinking he was just hearing things.
- Communication Barriers:Internal- Steve is focused on the job flyer, Mike is angry.External- The bus made a loud noise as soon as Mike started talking.
- Decoding: Steve thinks he is imagining Mike's voice.Feedback: Steve continues to read the flyer, ignoring Mike.
- First Sender: MikeFirst Receiver: Steve
- Message: Mike greets Steve on the street.Channel: Mike and Steve's mouthes, they talk to each other, body language, they express themselves.
- Mike, in his rage, lashes out at Steve. It is only now that Steve notices Mike, and Mike's exclamation confuses him.
- Mike storms off, upset with Steve for ignoring him. Steve, confused as to why Mike is upset, calls out for him, but to no avail.
- Context: Mike sees his friend Steve on the street, so he greets him. However, due to Steve's focus and the loud bus, he ignores Mike. This upsets Mike, which causes him to lash out at Steve. This leaves Steve confused, and the two part ways.
- Encoding: Mike wants to greet Steve, who is not paying attention, so he yells out to him.
