- The plant uses water through the roots, and carbon dioxide from humans, animals, and the environment. The formula for the whole thing is Carbon Dioxide + water - glucose + oxygen. Meaning that the plant takes in carbon dioxide and water, making glucose and oxygen.
- Of course! Let's start with photosynthesis, which is the process of where plants take in light energy through the chloroplast, turning it into chemical energy, which makes glucose. AKA: plant food.
- Hey girl! I was wondering if you could explain photosynthesis, cellular respiration, and both types of fermentation to me!
- Super cool! But how does the plant make the glucose?
- The process of generating ATP is actually all thanks to Mitochondria! The Mitochondria produces energy, which it captures and packages, to make what we know as what we know as ATP!
- Oh of course! Cellular respiration is the process in which organisms use oxygen to break down food molecules for energy in cell functions. Cell respiration also generates ATP, or Adenosine Triphosphate, which is used for other reactions in the body.
- Ok, that is seriously cool! But what about cellular respiration?
- But how does cellular respiration generate ATP?
- Another thing to note is that fermentation follows active and passive transport. Active being with energy, and passive being without. In the category of passive transport, there is diffusion and osmosis. In the category of active transport, there is endocytosis and exocytosis.
- Yeah, no problem! Fermentation is the process of breaking down sugar molecules into simpler compounds to produce substances. A thing to note about fermentation is that there are two main types; lactic and alcoholic fermentation.
- Could you explain fermentation to me?
