  • Did you hear about the Tennis Court Oath?
  • Yeah! It's a pledge that was signed in the early days of the French Revolution and was an important revolutionary act that displayed the belief that political authority came from the nation's people and not from the monarchy
  • I can't believe that on July 14, 1789 that angry mob stormed the Bastille in Paris! They were in search of large quantities of arms and ammunition and hoped to free prisoners held there!
  • I know right! That fortress was used by French kings to imprison subjects that didn't agree with them politically, making the Bastille a representation of the oppressive nature of the monarchy!
  • Did you hear about the Woman's March on Versailles? Concerned over the high price and scarcity of bread, women from the marketplaces in Paris led the march on October 5, 1789!
  • I heard about that too! It gave revolutionaries confidence in the power of the people over the king!
  • Ultimately unwilling to cede his royal power to the Revolutionary government, Louis XVI was found guilty of treason and condemned to death. He was guillotined just yesterday on January 21, 1793!
  • Shhh! Don't talk about that here!
  • Wow, I'm so glad that the Reign of Terror is finally over! That was horrible!
  • I know right! All of those innocent people killed by the guillotine due to Robespierre! He was crazy! I can't believe around 40,000 were killed in just 2 years for not supporting him!
  • All we wanted was a good king and now we have Napoleon! A complete dictator! We're doomed!
