Scene 1: This scene shows how Sweetness Lula Ann's mother didn't think that Lula Ann was going to turn out the color she did. She was very dark and Sweetness thought other than her when she was born that made her not want her daughter.
Scene 2: This scene shows how Sweetness and Lula Ann father Louis had fights that broke up their marriage because of the color of Lula Ann's skin. This caused Louis to never touch Lula Ann and for him to walk out their life.
Scene 3: Sweetness had to be strict on Lula Ann because of her color and because she was the mother of a dark-skinned child. Sweetness had to be a certain way to protect Lula Ann from the world because of the color of her skin that caused Sweetness to parent Lula Ann differently.
Scene 4: This part of the story was to show that she was bullied because of the color of her skin. Her mother sat and watched from the bus window but didn't help her while they hurt and laughed at Lula Ann.
Scene 5: When Lula Ann finally got older and she left Sweetness and went as far away as she could from her. This made Sweetness feel like she raised her too harshly and that she was a bad mother.
Scene 6: This scene was when Sweetness was in the nursing home and she hadn't heard from Lula Ann in a while. She had received an envelope but Lula Ann made sure not to put the address on the envelope to receive anything back but from Sweetness but Lula Ann did make sure she had things she needed in the nursing home.
