- Jacksonian Democracy refers to the political movement during the presidency of Andrew Jackson (1829–1837) that aimed to expand political power to more ordinary citizens and strengthen the role of the presidency. It marked a shift in American politics, emphasizing the idea that the government should be more responsive to the will of the people, especially the common man.

- Jacksonian Democracy helped expand voting rights to all white men, not just landowners. Before Jackson's presidency, only property-owning men were allowed to vote in many states. Under Jackson, more states eliminated property requirements, allowing all white men to vote. This greatly increased the number of eligible voters.

- Jackson's time in office saw the rise of the Democratic Party, which he led. This party was formed around the idea of supporting the common people, particularly farmers and laborers, against the wealthy elite. Jackson’s political opponents, who disagreed with his policies, formed the Whig Party.
