  • Warren E Burger was born in Dayton's Bluff neighborhood on September 17, 1907. He was 1 out of 7 children to his parents of German descent. He attended Johnson High School where he was president of student council and an editor of the newspaper. He graduated in 1925 and continued his education at the University of Minnesota.
  • After 2 years he attended the Saint Paul College of Law (William Mitchell College of Law) and graduated in 1931. He became apart of Saint Paul Law firm of Boyesen, Otis, Brill Faricy, was later a professor at law school for 12 years and then became a board member of William Mitchel College of Law, etc. He later publicly criticized the Fifth Amendment and voiced his concerns to the Supreme Court, therefore capturing the attention of President Nixon.
  • Burger was appointed assistant US attorney general in charge of the civil division following the 1952 election. Then he was appointed by President Eisenhower to the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Then President Richard M. Nixon nominated Warren E. Burger to be the Chief Justice of the United States on May 21, 1969, and was sworn in on June 23 after being confirmed by the Senate. After years of being a key player in Minnesota's Republican Party and 17 years as the 15th Chief Justice of the U.S, Burger died June 25, 1995.
